For the most part, I enjoyed this book and look forward to continuing the series with book 3, Cowgirl for Keeps Throughout the book, the heroine was rather emotional and cried a bit too much The book was a bit slow dull at times too For example, the hero and heroine courtin highlights included Sunday mornings, when they placed the hymn books in the church pews together I know it was the 1880s and entertainment was hard to come by, but P I miss the publication of the Love Inspired Harlequin Historical Line however, I have many many books to read and review for YEARS to come D What I liked Both Marybeth and Randall have a goal Randall wants a wife and a family After killing a man in his past he hopes that Marybeth can see he is a changed man and give him a chance I liked Randall and thought he was working hard to improve his life Marybeth has one goal to find her brother who she has not seen in years She comes west to marry Randall after his family pays her way The storyline was different and I felt the added side story of Marybeth finding her brother gave this book a little depth. What I didn t like I did not like Marybeth all that much When she first arrived she was not really interested in marrying Randall she just wanted to find her brother and I felt like she was sneaky and very dishonest As the story goes on and she starts to change I still had trouble liking her The story also felt slow at times.Overall this book was okay I didn t really like it or dislike it It was very lukewarm Not sure I will ready any of the books in this series.http smile review RU3NIR
When I first finished this book I really iked it, but after thinking on it some , it wasn t a favorite story as it didn t leave a lasting impression I didn t really liked the heroine, as I thought she was deceptive in a way to not even plan on marrying the guy.All in all, while I liked the story, it wasn t a favorite I receive a complimentary ebook copy of this book for my honest review As always, all thoughts and opinions expressed are my own. 4 STARSI liked the story, community characters Also liked that it is a clean read and I wanted to know about them I did figure out what happened to her brother Does mention church, scriptures and values as part of the story It fits in with the story.Randall Northam makes for a good hero He is a good guy, who changed his bad ways and is trying to be better in his life.Marybeth is likeable but was living a lie She is smart, alone and cares about others She does not want to make the same mistake as her mom She wants to find her brother. The setting is July 1881 Esperanza Colorado A western town that does not have a bar police I liked the characters of the town that make the story and wants to bring you back to Esperanza and sees what happens next.Marybeth agreed to marry Randall She made the deal with his parents back east She wants to find her brother that was last heard of years ago in nearby town She found out on the train that Rand was a gambler and killed a guy She is scared that he is like her father a drunk, gambler that is abusive Marybeth plans to get a job She knows how to use a typewriter, accounting.Rand is agreeable to waiting to get to know Marybeth and to help her find her brother. This is the second book in Four Stones Ranch but first one I have read The book does a good job of standing alone but I would like to read the first book I would like to read books by Louise M Gouge in the future.I was given this ebook to read by Net Galley and Harlequin I agreed to give a honest review of Cowboy Seeks a Bride. I absolutely loved this clean historical western, and I ve given it a 5 rating It was rich in history and I loved the interest in the first typewriters What a long way we have some in banking too The bad guy was real easy to dislike and all the rest of the characters in this little town made things interesting also. This book held my attention but all the olympics cut into my reading time, so it took me longer than normal Just enoyed this author s work. Louise M Gouge has written a refreshing change in mail order bride arranged marriages stories I liked the challenge each party had between them This is the second book in the series and I wish I had read the first one but this one can stand alone I liked how the characters interacted with each other and how they sought to bring their differences to a conclusion I look forward to the next book in the series and I m looking for the first one You created a monster Ms Gouge. DNF In truth I could only get through reading the first chapter and even that was a struggle Mostly in what I read of this novel I found its pace to be slow and Marybeth to be annoying I understand she has abuse issues because of her father but after hearing what she did about Rand from a friend of his while on the train to meet him she pegged him as being a bad guy and was overly standoffish I just couldn t put up with it.I just wasn t a fan and don t recommend. I love how Marybeth s search for her brother forces Rand to postpone their arranged marriage which neither of them seems that anxious to pursue at the beginning, anyway This gave both of them time to get to know and understand each other before deciding on a course of action The fact that Marybeth s brother had changed his name and was Rand s good friend came across as sweet rather than convenient.
