In the news, on social media, throughout God s word, we are again and again reminded of the plight of the orphan around the world It breaks our hearts, tugs at the moral compass God has placed in all of us, but too often we do nothing and feel overwhelmed by the scope of the problem Where do we start How can we find out the best way to help In Pursuit of Orphan Excellence digs deep into those questions While building on God s principles from his word, it explores ways to do the best we can for God s treasured least of these By examining the issues from many perspectives and aspects of care, this book gives us ways to discern how to help and where to get started I highly recommend this book Dig in Get involved One step at a timeone child at a time Darlene RudrickGO Missions CoordinatorCrossroads Community Church [Download] ♻ In Pursuit of Orphan Excellence ☳ How Can We Love With Excellence The Millions Of Orphaned Andvulnerable Children In Our World Who Have Lost Their Parents, Have No Relatives To Love Them Well, And Likely Will Not Be Adopted In Pursuit Of Orphan Excellence Frames A Conversation Around This Question Through A Collaborative Effort Involving Fifteen Authors From Orphan Care Organizations Around The World, Bringing To The Table An Often Neglected Component Of Orphan Care After Discussing Why Everyone In The World, Christian And Non Christian Alike, Should Care To The Core About Caring For Orphans, In Pursuit Examines A Framework From Family To Spiritual Formation And A Whole Lot In Between Of What Excellent, Best Practice Orphan Care Looks Like In Situations Where Kinship Care, Legal Adoption, Quality Foster Care, Or Reunification With Biological Family Is Not Possible, Feasible, Or Likely To OccurAs You Read This Book, You Will Be Invited To Learn From Others Seeking Best Practice Orphan Care, Engage In The Conversation, And Advocate For Orphans Around The World And In Your Own Backyard This book is essential reading for anyone who is involved in orphan care or who has a heart for the oppressed From beginning to end this book challenged my notion of what it means not only to care for orphans, but to do it with excellence Darke and McFarlane cast a vision for orphan care that incorporates all aspects of the child mind, body, and spirit This book is not meant to give the reader a guilt trip Instead, it serves to inform the reader of best practices in orphan care and to invite the reader to join in what God is doing to restore what has been broken. As someone who has spent time in Honduras volunteering with La Providencia, this book takes on special meaning for me I have witnessed what God is doing to restore families, and this book inspired me with similar stories from Uganda and elsewhere I look forward to participating in the ongoing discussions at www.thinkorphan.com In pursuit of Orphan Excellence really exposes the heart of orphaned children and what they are most in need of beyond food and shelter This book has really challenged my perception of what the average orphaned child in an economically underdeveloped nation is going through and the mindset of that child It makes my heart long to bring the fulfillment of the Father to these children throughout our world It demonstrates a God centered approach on how we can bring the Father to the fatherless If you are curious about what a gospel centered approach to caring for orphaned children is from home or abroad, then this book is a for you. Awesome book An excellent resource for those who desire to provide orphan care, or support those who do Excellence in orphan care involves much than providing food, clothing and education To flourish in adulthood, children need to live within a family and have Biblical principles of manhood and womanhood modelled for them This book provides very practical information from multiple orphan care experts who have learned from experience how to bring excellence to the task The central concept of orphans living within family groups is well explained Many additional facets of orphan care are well developed, in the interest of providing care with the same love and compassion that our heavenly Father provides to His children. This is an amazing and enlightening work that should be read by everyone who truly cares about obeying God s imperatives for Christian living My husband and I had the privilege of joining with one of the authors, Phil Darke, on a mission to La Providencia in Honduras in 2010 There we saw the living out of the best practices philosophy he so beautifully explains in this book Our Father tells us that pure and undefiled religion is to care for widows and the fatherless May we take seriously the command and here is the way to begin to live it out, whether we can go to far away places or stay at home and bring the far away places to our own homes and churches. What When Helping Hurts has done to begin transforming the mission community, this incredible book has begun and will continue to do for the orphan care community In Pursuit of Orphan Excellence landed in my hands at exactly the right time The work my family is doing alongside a ministry in Africa has been going through some growing pains We ve searched Scripture and the heart of God for how to best care for our children This book, in nothing but love and grace, is adding another voice to our conversations on best practices for orphan care A MUST read for anyone involved in caring for the least This book has a critical place in the discussion of how to do orphan care ministry effectively and with grace In fact, grace fills the pages of this book as the authors both recognize their need for God in an often very tough ministry to some of the most vulnerable children in the world If there is one thing in this book that jumps off the pages to me it is the Gospel and humility Each author writes with an earnest desire to be transformed by the message of the Gospel and write with a posture of humility They DO NOT claim to have all the answers, but offer a wealth of wisdom grounded in a Biblical understanding of the Fatherhood of God and his pursuit of the fatherless the orphan What I take away over and over from this book is that caring for orphans is not just a good thing to do, but is intimately connected to the Father heart of God which is why James 1 27 a verse anyone in orphan care ministry clings to says Religion that is pure and undefiled before God is grounded in him as the Father He is the fuel that we do orphan care out of and he is the road that we submit to in correcting our best practices of orphan care I was reminded that family is broken the world over, even my own God created family, we broke it, he knows how to fix it, he fixes it, and uses broken redeemed family to care for those without family It s beautiful and the collective effort of men and women in the writing of this book speaks volumes to me of how the body of Christ exists to bring restoration and love to orphan children through family It doesn t always look ideal this side of things, it often looks messy, but it is effective because it is driven by our redeeming Savior, Jesus Christ.Whether you are based in your local church, doing adoption, foster care, promoting kinship care, running an NGO for children, or you find yourself caring for having influence over children who are not your own in whatever context, this book has something for you From my reading as someone involved in orphan care in Africa I would greatly encourage others to utilize this book to promote discussion on how we can be effective in what we do wherever God has called you to in the unique passions and giftings he has given you. Great book and an important read as the church surveys and addresses the global orphan crisis I appreciate how comprehensive this book was in scope they leave no stone unturned as the aim is for holistic orphan care I really like the underlying premise of the book that when we discuss orphans, we have to maintain the approach that these are our kids we re talking about The story that they opened with about the group that toured the orphanage in Latin America has stuck with me That story really pinpoints what our attitude and our mindset should be when we decide to involve ourselves in caring for orphans My only thing with this book is something that I experience with a lot of books that are written my many co authors as this one is set up with each topic being handled by someone else When the voice is constantly changing and some writers are better than others or are handle a interesting topic, I find myself struggling to get through particular chapters That s not a knock on any one contributor, but just an overall preference of my own Overall, this is a good book and one that is important in the realm of Christian orphan care.
